Pre/Post Workout Foods

I always have trouble finding the right foods to eat before and after a workout. Here are a couple of foods to eat that will rev up your body with the right energy that your body needs pre or post workout.

Before Workout:

1. Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is best if you plan on running for a few miles. If you don't like your yogurt plain, then go ahead and add some granola or trail mix(yes, the one's without the little chocolates!).

2. Oatmeal with Fresh Fruit

The sugars from the meal slowly release as you workout. When shopping for oatmeal, stay away from the pre-made packages because they have added sugars when you should have the natural sugars from fruit.

3. Apple wedges with Almond Butter

Have you tried almond butter?! If not, then you are definitely missing out! This is one of my favorites snacks because it's easy to pack for my busy schedule. It also takes away the hunger while amping up the energy level.

After Workout:

1. Grilled Chicken and Veggies

Your body is in recovery mode and needs the best protein. The lean meats will help fill you up without feeling stuffed.

2. Veggie Omelet

Eggs are a great source of protein and help with muscle recovery. Adding veggies will be able to make you feel fuller but with all the healthy nutrients. If you don't want an omelet, then scramble it all in a burrito or by itself.

3.Salmon and Sweet Potato

Fun fact, intake of fish rich in omega-3's helps lower the risk of several types of cancer. Salmon isn't loved by everyone so make many different recipes until you find your favorite! Sweet potatoes help restore glycogen levels and taste very good. You can bake them into fries or even mash them as an alternative to regular mash potatoes.

Hope some of these foods help you in your fitness journey! :)
